Vast open grassy spaces, and plenty of trees for shade, just perfect for relaxing in nature and enjoying an afternoon picnic. Resting in a Valley this picnic site offers beautiful scenery, tranquility and some forest exploring for the family. There is an easy, short 450m walk in the forest beneath the huge tree ferns and small trickling streams. The forest floor path can be slippery so do be careful when walking over tree roots and logs. Another a slightly more strenuous walk takes visitors to the incredibly beautiful Spitzkop viewpoint overlooking the Knysna Heads. An ideal day outing for the whole family & be sure to remember your camera! The picnic spot can be reached via the R339, along the Prince Alfred Pass and is situated near the Diepwalle State Forest Facilities: Wooden tables and benches, brei (fire) facilities, water and bush toilets. Drupkelders - loosely translated into Dripping Cellars, are rock pools in the Knysna forest. Combine a 3. 5km indigenous forest walk with a visit to magnificent rock pools in the Homtini River in the Knysna Forest. These massive rock pools offer deep, cola-coloured waters to cool off in and even a waterfall to clamber up next to (to another series of pools) . Take a rucksack with picnic and swimming things and wear good walking shoes as there is a steep section near the river. Due to the exclusivity of this gem, only 12 persons a day are allowed in and a Sanparks permit is required (Wildcards are not accepted for this walk) . It is not expensive and you are required to keep the permits on you should officials ask you for it by the rock pools. This trail starts at the Forest Edge Nature-lovers Retreat gate entrance. A field guide may be arranged in advance to take guests to our bushman paintings and to see the high altitude orchids (Dec - Feb) . Guests are advised that a reasonable clearance vehicle is required.

The Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail was South Africa's first officially accredited hiking trail and has recently been allocated the Green Flag Certificate for a trail under excellent management. The Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail is truly a southern Cape hiking paradise, journeying through extensive indigenous afromontane forest and mountain fynbos. Ancient river gorges and abundant rivers and streams continually remind us of the creative power of water and the origins of the word Tsitsikamma. Tsitsikamma is an old Khoisan word which means 'place of many waters. ' The trail passes numerous rivers and streams and offers spectacular mountain and river gorge scenery.

Hike the Tsitsikamma Coast in luxury. Imagine a hike similar to the famous Otter Trail but with overnight stays in luxury lodges and without having to carry your heavy backpacks!

Nukakamma meaning "grassy water", is the Khoisan name for Sundays River because of its verdant grassy banks. Nukakamma Canoe Trail is a much sought after two day flat-water trail along the Sundays River, which is situated just off the N2 highway some 40kms from Port Elizabeth (a mere half hour's drive) . The Nukakamma Canoe Trail is the only Green Flag Status Canoe Trail in South Africa. The journey begins aboard our 4 metre double canoes with a 13km trip along the Sundays River from our premises to your overnight accommodation and a 13km canoe trip back the following day. We can accommodate a maximum of 12 people on a trail at one time and the trails can be extended to 2 nights at an additional cost. For safety reasons we do not allow less than 6 people on the trail at any one time. The river is on average about 2m deep at high tide except at the mouth where it is much shallower. Depending on weather conditions, the journey can take anything from 2 to 8 hours...
