The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) is responsible for the proclaimed national road network, currently 16, 000 kms of major roads between large cities. 2, 400 of this network is tolled. These are primarily N routes, although some R routes have been incorporated into the national grid. It is envisaged that this will comprise 20, 000 kms of road by 2010, when more provincial roads are incorporated into the agency for management.
