The 'gentle' martial art uses the force of an attacker to neutralise a conflict situation with joint locks & throws. Honbu dojo (the headquarters of Kushido Karate do) is a fulltime dojo situated at 120 Buitengraght street in the City Bowl of Cape Town. The dojo has a wooden floor and is equipped with change rooms, an office and a kitchen. Honbu dojo is headed by Shihan Lawrence Milward-Bridges, 6th dan. He started training at the Plumstead dojo in 1978 and began teaching in 1983. He was graded 5th dan at the Kushido 40th anniversary Gashuku in 2003 and was awarded the title of Shihan (Master) in 2005. Shihan Lawrence was invited overseas to teach aspects of the Martial Art on an International Gashuku in Switzerland in 2006, 2011 and 2016 and in the UK in 2008. In February 2011 Shihan Lawrence was awarded Rokudan (6th Dan) .
