Aurora was founded in 1978 by two teachers, Joan Goosen and Peggy Cathro. These teachers identified a need within the school and surrounding community that Children with Profound Intellectual and Physical Disabilities needed a more specialized services and support system. The mission of Aurora Special Care Centre aims to stimulate and care for Children and Adults with Profound Mental and Physical Disabilities, so they may reach their full potential. Aurora Special Care Centre is a registered NPO who renders essential services to vulnerable children and adults with multiple Profound Mental and Physical Disabilities, irrespective of race, language or creed and is BEE Compliant. The name AURORA means "new beginning" and this is what our centre offers our vulnerable persons with disabilities.

The South African Mobility for the Blind Trust (SAMBT) specialises in Independence training for blind and partially-sighted people. We were formed in 1998 and are a registered Non-profit Organisation. We have an outreach approach and we operate nationally in areas that are under-served or not served at all, i. e. rural areas and townships. Our programmes are community-based and we also run programmes at schools for the blind.

Raslouw Academy and Raslouw Junior Academy provides a one-stop solution for special-needs learners in a safe and supportive environment, with our creed being that a good education teaches a child what to remember from the past, what to enjoy in the present, and what to plan for in the future. It is our constant endeavor, to recognise achievement every day and to reward responsibility every hour.
