Always a pleasure to visit this museum, always exhibitions of high standard and never a disappointment. Pity though that this gem should be surrounded by a city centre in decay.

Their permanent exhibits are amazing. I've been there so many times but still see something new in art I have already seen.

A once wonderful little gallery that has gone to ruin. They had quite a good collection but have lost a lot due to theft. The completely disinterested staff also drag the tone down.

Ditsong Kruger Museum
Pretoria, South Africa
The Kruger Museum and its contents bear witness to the forceful personality of the man who lived there as leader of a small republic in southern Africa, at a stormy and unsettling time of his people's long struggle against British imperialism.. The Museum consists of the original house in which S. J. P. Kruger, President of the old Zuid-Afrikensche Republiek (ZAR), and his family lived during the last years of the 19th century, as well as two display halls and President Kruger's State Railway Coach. The Kruger house, built in 1884, was the original home of Paul Kruger, President of the former Transvel Boer Republic. The house has been refurbished to reflect the time when the President and his wife, Gezina Kruger, lived there. International admiration for Paul Kruger and the struggle for freedom from British imperialism, his journey to Europe and his exile, are illustrated in the exhibitions. Adjacent to the Kruger Museum is the former Bantu Commissioner's Office Building, erected i

Ditsong Pioneer Museum
Pretoria, South Africa
While enjoying a cup of coffee and homemade bread, visitors can experience a way of life that has irrevocably passed. The stories of the Pioneer Museum and 1848 house, and of the people who lived on the farm, Hartebeestpoort, are enacted against the background of the pioneer years in South Africa.. The house was built of clay and local materials, with a thatched roof and earthen floors, and is furnished in the traditional 19th century rural style. The house is surrounded by a traditional herb and vegetable garden, orchard, furnished wagon house and vineyard. Well-trained guides in period clothing present adult programmes and curriculum-based educational programmes. Visitors can make use of the picnic and brei facilities. The two lapas and the hall can be rented for family celebrations and work-related functions. A New Year's Festival is held on 1 January every year.

Ditsong Sammy Marks Museum
Pretoria, South Africa
Sammy Marks arrived in South Africa with a case of silver knives as his only valuable possession, and became one of the first entrepreneurs, playing a significant role in mining, industrial and agricultural development in the country. Ninety eight percent of the household contents in Sammy Marks Museum originally belonged to the Marks family. Sammy Marks got an Italian artist to paint the walls of his mansion 'to look like satin'. The paintings in the billiard room were done on silk and pasted on the ceiling. Zwartkoppies Hall is the Victorian mansion where businessman and entrepreneur Sammy Marks and his family lived from 1885 to 1909, after which it became a weekend retreat. After his death his widow and children inhabited it until the death of the last one in 1978. No members of the family then wished to live at Zwartkoppies permanently - by now an ageing, deteriorating structure. A suitable tenant had to be found. It was offered as old age home, school, army, hotel...
